Diane Morrison and Insa Raymond are the Superintendents for the Landscaping at the Fair. As we prepare for the 2020 year of events, we have a few dates we want to share with you.
The individual youth landscaping sign-up meeting will be March 19th at 6 p.m. at the Fair Office. On April 23rd the group will meet at Showcase Gardens to plant Cannes at 6 p.m.
Have yo noticed the beautiful flower beds and planters at the Fair every year? Here is an opportunity to learn how they get planted. Individual 4-H'ers, 4-H Clubs and Open Class exhibitors make this happen. We will meet on March 19th where individual 4-H'ers may choose one or two gardens at the Fairgrounds to design, plant and nurture to be judged on entry day of Fair.
The 4-H'er speaks with the judge about how well the garden grew. Premiums paid for a garden are between $25 to $35 depending on an A, B or C ribbon along with a garden journal which pays $4 to $6 for the journal. The journal notes when the garden was planted, watered, fertilized and weeded along with listing the plants and pictures of the before and after garden.
If you are slightly curious or interested, please call Diane Morrison at 517-617-4788
The gardens not chose by the individual 4-Hers are then open up for the 4-H Clubs to choose at the pre-fair meeting. The clubs do not talk to a judge and do not keep a garden journal. If all gardens are not chosen, then the gardens are available for Open Class. Each of these categories of individual, club or open class have guidelines to follow.
